Poem by Tony's Father, Steve

“Father and Son”

A day so bright

A father’s delight

Spirits lifted

A son is gifted

Father looks upon Son

In service, a war to be won

A Goodbye kiss on the cheek

The enemy father must seek

And so, for many years

And so, for many tears

At father side

Friends will die

War is the hellish place

For the human race

A soul, a sword, a shield

Left on the battlefield

{Killing isn’t so tough

Only the first is rather rough

After this you become hardened, tough}

A father thinks of these deeds

Wondering where it all leads

What payment should be rendered

For these actions tendered

A son makes a choice

Thinking father will rejoice

Duty, honor, country… more

Son decides to go to war.

Father knows of this sad place

Sadness darkens his face

A son for whom he’s fought for

“Don’t Die and that’s an Order”

A knock on the door

Who could it be for

It is late at night

This can’t be right

An officer standing at attention

A father’s fists clenching

Another instance

Of disobedience

A father thinks of the wrongs done

Is this payment, taking his son

Anger begins to swell

God can go to Hell

Father begins to realize

To his surprise

God’s gift of a son

Is a most precious one

The mystery may never be revealed

And deep sorrow never healed

God’s Will, will be done

I love you, my son

Just an ordinary man

Seeking each day God’s plan

Grateful for the time I had

With my son, being a Dad.

All Gave Some.................................Some Gave All

Inspired and dedicated, by and to,

   my Son Tony.
